Cohabitation (Living together) Agreements

Around one in four people living together think they have the same legal protection as if they were married.

If you are considering moving in with your partner without getting married, we can draw up a cohabitation agreement. Cohabitation agreements are legally binding and enforceable which means if the terms of the agreement are breached a claim for any financial losses caused can be made.

Such an agreement can be used to clarify:

  • Who owns property, including your home, contents, joint bank accounts, savings and belongings
  • How payment of household bills is to be divided
  • Maintenance payments for any children, including school fees and payments for housing

We will explain the process clearly and keep you informed about what is happening at each stage.
